Google Search Quality Guidelines
Here are Google’s quality guidelines. You may observe, however, that although there are numerous recommendations for negative signals, there are few for good signs. Consider what occurs when two, 10, or a hundred websites aren’t doing anything wrong when you’re viewing these. How can you tell whether there is a quality difference if no one makes a mistake?
Basic Guidelines
- Create pages with humans in mind, not search engines.
- Do not mislead your users.
- Avoid using techniques to boost your search engine results. If you’d feel comfortable describing what you’ve done to a competitor’s website or a Google employee, that’s a decent rule of thumb. “Does this aid my users?” is another good question to ask. “Would I do this if there were no search engines?”
- Consider what makes your website special, valuable, or interesting. Make your website stand out among the competition in your industry.
Specific Guidelines
The following techniques should be avoided:
- Content that is created automatically
- Taking part in link schemes
- Making pages with little or no fresh material is a bad idea.
- Redirects with a cloak of secrecy
- Hidden Text or links
- Doorway Pages
- Content that was scraped
- Participating in affiliate programmes without bringing enough value to the table
- Using irrelevant keywords for content
- Creating dangerous websites, such as phishing or installing viruses, trojans, or other malicious software
- Abusing of rich snippets markup
- Sending automated queries to Google
Understand the intent of users and create content accordingly.
