Twitter Follow Button Redesign Is Causing Confusion Among Users

Recent changes in twitter follow button redesign causing lot of confusion among users. Suddenly followers going down for many popular twitter accounts.

This week, Twitter unveiled a new design that changed the layout, changed the font, and increased visual contrast. In general, I’d characterise the modifications as minimal — nothing compared to the shift in 2019 that sparked a tiny online outcry.

However, there has been at least one big snag with the revamp for 2021. The “Follow” and “Following” buttons on Twitter have been redesigned in the new version. In a nutshell, the “Following” button is the same colour as the app’s backdrop, and it appears just like the old “Follow” button. As a result, many people have unfollowed persons they previously followed by error. Because things appear to be different at first glance, it’s a muscle memory error.

Many people have expressed dissatisfaction with the new design. There have appeared to be a slew of unfollows that were supposed to be follows. There have been a lot of tweets about it, to be honest.

So, be careful out there. The buttons for following and following are not what they appear to be. Take a moment to consider what you’re going to do before you go ahead and do it. Check new design here.
